Gatorland is a 110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve in Florida.
Throughout Gatorland’s 60-plus-year history, families have been making gator-filled memories inside the giant jaws of the park’s iconic entrance. Located between Orlando and Kissimmee on South Orange Blossom Trail, the 110-acre park is an Orlando original that includes a free-flight aviary, a petting zoo, nature trails, a train ride, a splash park and award-winning dining. There are also a ton of adventures that your family can get into that revolve around the park’s central theme: alligators.
The Thrilling, Rare & Unusual
Among the thousands of alligators and crocodiles at Gatorland, see if you can spot the four rare leucistic white alligators, the largest collection of this species in the world. There are also many chances for you to get up close and personal with some of the park’s gators. During Adventure Hour, go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Alligator Breeding Marsh, where you will venture just a few feet away from giant alligators and pose for a photo. Or you can step into the Gator Wrestlin’ Arena and participate in the Rookie Wrestling experience to feel the power of these amazing creatures. You can even take part in the Gator Night Shine, where a guide will lead you and your family along the wooden walkways with flashlights and hot dogs in hand to spot gators.
One of Gatorland’s biggest thrills is the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line, where you will soar over the treetops at 1,200 feet in the air. This adventure even takes you across the Alligator Breeding Marsh as 130 giant alligators, along with Cuban and Nile crocodiles, watch you glide from below. Expect heart-pounding adventure as you fly across five intense zip lines that range from 230 feet to 500 feet and cross a swinging bridge over the park’s main walkway. Participants have to wear closed-toe shoes, and skirts, dresses and short shorts are discouraged. They must also be at least 37″ tall and must be able to fit safely into the zip line harnesses. Equipment like a helmet, gloves and a harness are provided with each zip line adventure.
Guests with mobility challenges can also get in on the zip line experience. At the Gator Gauntlet Accessible Zip Line, participate in the same amazing adventure while secured in a different type of harness. However, Gator Gauntlet riders must meet certain strength, coordination and size requirements in order to participate.
When you’ve worked up an appetite, chomp on the Gator Bites at Pearl’s Restaurant. There are also cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders and pizza available at dining locations throughout the park. For dessert, you will find 10 varieties of handmade fudge at the Fudge Kitchen as well as candies, caramel apples, frozen chocolate bananas and more.
A new adventure will be coming to Gatorland in the fall of 2017. For more information about the Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure, click here.
